A MedlinePlus page has been published in Facebook. Become a fan and distribute the good work of the NLM!
The MedlinePlus toolbar (http://medlineplus.ourtoolbar.com) already has many features from the Medline PLus site, inclusing the cluster search option and the News feed, but is not completely finished. Please pass any suggestions to expand or improve it.
Please have a look at the MedlinePlus Search widget available for almost any platform from Netvibes at http://eco.netvibes.com/widgets/229959/medlineplus-search

Widgetbox NLM Search box in Internet Explorer

Today I saw a post Ann Kucera from "Web 2.0: Health and Wellness Information " about the NLM Searchbox widget from Widgetbox.
She thinks it's ugly and big ;-(
Ann, i can make you a special NLM Gateway Search box/widget or a selection of your preferred nlm search tools if want. And we can try and make it as simple as YOU want. Just let me know ;-) The base of all this, is the NLM Toolbar that allows me to to tailor-made work within minutes.
Netvibes over Widgetbox
Netvibes is my favourite over Widgetbox. Please try this one.
I will try and find out why the error occurs in IE from Widgetbox.
To add the searchbox into a Blogger HTML Page element just copy and paste html code from <> from the source code. This way you could leave out the extra info and options on the bottom. If you need more info just ask.
Please try some other widgets at: http://eco.netvibes.com/users/9148

NLM Search as Facebook Application

As from today the NLM Search Box is available not only via the Netvibes UWA widget, but also via Widgetbox.com ánd as Facebook Application. It uses the same source file and was ready in 5 minutes. I really wish I had done this sooner, as it turned out to be really easy to make it from a Widgetbox widget into a Facebook app.

PubMed Tutorials, Services and Related Resources added

Today I added the overview of the PubMed and MyNCBI Tutorials to the PubMed Toolbar. Did you know that the PubMed Tutorial is based on the NLM's one-day PubMed training course?
There are various brief animated tutorials with audio for using PubMed.

The PubMed Services are now available via the ServicesPlus button on the Toolbar. They include the list of Related Resources.

Add PubMed to Your Web Site

You could easily add a PubMed Searchbox to your website to offer your users an easy search start to the most used medical database in the world.
It is not a new thing, but you could have missed it from the NLM website.
See the details and the Special instructions for LinkOut providers.

Search PubMed:

You can also find this info ánd more via the PubMed Toolbar
Adding the PubMed search box to your siteYou can aditionally add this searchbox to your own personal startpage in Netvibes, iGoogle or Pageflakes. Or you get the PubmedSearchbox, the MedlinePLus box and various other medical search widgets from my widgets collection at Netvibes

NLM Toolbars blog live on Februari 19th 2008

NLM Toolbars blog goes live on Februari 19th 2008.
What could I possible add more to it? Please give me your comments and suggestion.

  • If you think I missed any usefull search option as a direct search option, tell me.
  • The "grouped" Toolbars that come with the NLM Toolbars are "under construction", but will be completed within the next few weeks.
  • A more extended introductory movie will be available soon. For now there is only a "quick and dirty" one.
  • If you need just a selection of the long list of search options of the NLM, focussed on a specific subject or research range, please contact me. You could easily use the NLM SearchBox widget. But having created this complete toolbar, allows me to -fairly easily- create, for a selecting of search engines:
    • a floating searchbox somewhere on one of the NLM Toolbars, like the QuickSearch on the NLM Toolbar
    • a searchbox (html) with selected/limited search to be placed on webpage or intranet
    • a Netvibes widget (UWA) to add to your personal start page

NLM SearchBox

Today I added the NLM searchbox to the left menu of this blog. Mainly to show that the widgets can be added to your own Netvibes, but also to several other platforms.
The NLM searchbox has the search options: NLM Gateway (one-stop-search), NLM Website Search (with Vivisimo), MedlinePlus, Pubmed, ToxSeek (Meta-Search), Haz-Map, Free Books & Journals.
See more details of this widget at my collection of Netvibes widgets

TermFinder Added as Search Option

The TermFinder option is added to the Searchbox of the NLM Toolbar.
Direct link: http://gateway.nlm.nih.gov/gw/Cmd?GMBasicSearch%26loc=nccs

Find terms, their definitions, and related terms, using NLM's MeSH and UMLS Metathesaurus.

Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) is NLM's controlled vocabulary thesaurus. MeSH terminology provides a consistent way to retrieve information that may use different terminology for the same concepts.
NLM's Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) Metathesaurus contains information about biomedical concepts and terms from many sources.
